Cable tracers identify an individual cable among a bundle, at a patch panel or behind a wall plate, saving time when tracing runs on site without existing labelling.
How they work
This range from Trend Networks is supplied as a tone and probe kit, sending a tone signal down the cable that is picked up with a probe at the other end. A remote kit with numbered RJ45 sockets lets several outlets be identified in turn, supplied as a set.
For full certification rather than simple tracing, see LAN Cable Certifiers or Cable Qualifiers, and check basic continuity with Continuity Testers from the Copper Testers range.
Cable Tracers FAQs
What is a cable tracer used for?
It identifies an individual cable among a bundle or behind a patch panel, using a tone generator and probe so the correct cable can be found without existing labels.
How is this kit supplied?
This Trend Networks kit is supplied as a set, combining a tone generator and amplifier probe with a remote kit of numbered RJ45 sockets, numbered 1 to 12, for identifying multiple outlets in turn.
What if I need to certify a cable rather than just trace it?
See LAN Cable Certifiers or Cable Qualifiers within the same Copper Testers range, or check basic continuity with a continuity tester.
