OS2 patchcords are singlemode duplex fibre leads used to cross-connect equipment in patch panels, switches and transceivers on longer runs where singlemode’s smaller core and lower attenuation are needed. They terminate OS2 9/125 singlemode fibre and are stocked as duplex leads in 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 and 5.0 metre lengths.
Choosing the right connector
- Connector pairing: LC-LC, LC-SC, LC-ST, SC-SC, SC-ST, ST-ST, FC-FC, FC-LC, FC-SC and FC-ST combinations, matched to the ports on the equipment at each end of the link.
- Length: 1.0 to 5.0 metre patchcords, chosen to reach from the patch panel to the switch or transceiver without excess slack.
- Fibre mode: singlemode fibre carries a single light path, giving lower loss over distance than multimode.
For multimode alternatives see OM4 Patchcords or OM3 Patchcords, or browse the full Fibre Patchcords range.
OS2 Patchcords FAQs
What connector types are available on OS2 patchcords?
OS2 patchcords are stocked with LC, SC, ST and FC connectors in both matching and mixed pairings, including LC-SC and FC-ST. Check the connector fitted on each end of the link before ordering.
What is OS2 fibre used for compared to multimode?
OS2 9/125 is singlemode fibre, used for longer campus and backbone links where its lower attenuation over distance suits the run. Shorter equipment room links often use multimode instead, such as OM3 Patchcords.
What lengths do OS2 patchcords come in?
Stocked lengths are 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 and 5.0 metres, letting you match the cord to the distance between the patch panel and the connected equipment.
