OM1 patchcords are multimode duplex fibre leads used to cross-connect equipment on older 62.5/125 fibre installations, or to extend an existing OM1 backbone. They terminate OM1 62.5/125 multimode fibre and are stocked as duplex leads in 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 and 5.0 metre lengths.
Choosing the right connector
- Connector pairing: LC-LC, LC-SC, LC-ST, SC-SC, SC-ST and ST-ST combinations, matched to the ports on the equipment at each end of the link.
- Length: 1.0 to 5.0 metre patchcords, chosen to reach between the patch panel and the switch without excess slack.
- Fibre mode: OM1 is an older multimode grade, so new installs typically move up to a higher grade multimode or singlemode fibre.
For a higher grade multimode option see OM3 Patchcords or OM4 Patchcords, or browse the full Fibre Patchcords range.
OM1 Patchcords FAQs
When would I need an OM1 patchcord?
OM1 patchcords match existing 62.5/125 multimode installations, so they are mainly used to extend or repair an older fibre backbone rather than for new cabling designs.
What connector types are available on OM1 patchcords?
OM1 patchcords are stocked with LC, SC and ST connectors in matching and mixed pairings, including LC-SC and SC-ST. Check the connector fitted on each end of the link before ordering.
Should a new fibre install use OM1 fibre?
New installs typically use a higher grade multimode such as OM3 Patchcords or a singlemode option, keeping OM1 for matching existing links.
