Patch Panels are rack mounted panels with multiple RJ45 ports that let you organise, connect and route cabling from outlets around the building to active equipment such as switches, routers and servers. This range from Excel, Combow and XeLAN covers Cat5e and Cat6 systems in 19 inch, 1U format.

Choosing a patch panel

  • System category: Cat5e or Cat6 to match the rest of the installation
  • Port count: 16, 24 or 48 port to suit the number of outlets being terminated
  • 1U, 19 inch format to fit standard racks and cabinets
  • Panels with a rear cable manager and label set for tidier terminations

See Cat5e Patch Panels and Cat6 Patch Panels. Pair panels with RJ45 Copper Network Patch Leads and Mounting Hardware for a complete termination.

Patch Panels FAQs

How many ports do I need on a patch panel?

Panels are stocked in 16, 24 and 48 port options. Count the outlets that need terminating at the rack, plus some spare capacity, and pick the port count that covers it.

Should I choose Cat5e or Cat6?

Match the panel to the category of cable already installed or specified for the project. See Cat5e Patch Panels and Cat6 Patch Panels for each range.

What else do I need to terminate a patch panel?

You will also need RJ45 Copper Network Patch Leads to connect from the panel to switches, and Mounting Hardware to fit the panel into the rack.
