Back Boxes

Back boxes mount behind faceplates to hold cable and connections within a wall or surface fixing. Choose 1 gang or 2 gang sizes in 32mm or 45mm depth, in black or white, from Combow, Marshall Tufflex and Excel.

Back boxes are fitted behind a faceplate to contain cable terminations and give the faceplate something to fix to, whether flush mounted in a wall or surface mounted on top of it. Installers order them alongside faceplates for new outlet positions on copper cabling jobs.

Choosing a back box

  • 1 gang (2 module) boxes suit a single faceplate position, and 2 gang (4 module) boxes suit a double faceplate.
  • Depth runs from 32mm for standard cable capacity up to 45mm and 44mm where more cable or larger connectors need to sit inside.
  • Boxes are available in black or white to match the faceplate and surrounding fittings.

Fit a matching Faceplates on top, use Modular Blanks to cover unused positions, or see Brush Modules for a cable entry outlet, all within Mounting Hardware.

Back Boxes FAQs

What depth of back box do I need?

Use a 32mm deep box for most faceplate installs. Where cable bulk or connector depth is tight, step up to a 45mm (Marshall Tufflex) or 44mm (Combow) box so the faceplate sits flush without straining the cable.

What is the difference between 1 gang and 2 gang back boxes?

A 1 gang (2 module) box takes a single faceplate position, while a 2 gang (4 module) box is wider and takes a double faceplate, giving twice the outlet space in one fixing.

Do I need blanks if the back box is not fully populated?

Yes. Fit Modular Blanks into any unused faceplate positions to keep the finish tidy once the outlets you actually need are wired into the box.
