Blown Fibre, sometime referred to as “Air Blown Fibre” offers network installers, rapid deployment as well as some cost savings. The use of blown fibre has seen rapid growth, especially in the installation of FTTH and FTTP

Aimed at delegates who wish to gain knowledge and to develop an insight into the concepts involved with the installation of micro ducts/sub ducts. Risk assessments and other safety requirements as well as the requirement to carry out functional pre-blowing checks. Operation of blowing equipment and ancillary machinery is also covered.

Our training centre is located in Harlow in the South East of England just off the M25.  We can also deliver courses at your location by arrangement if you have a suitable workspace.

Course Content

  • Carry out a risk assessment prior to working with air compressors and installation of micro ducts 
  • Complete a range of safety checks when operating compressors, electrical and hydraulic driven blowing machines 
  • Build an end to end blowing link for the size of the fibre unit being blown in. 
  • Use differing types of micro duct and sub duct assemblies and interconnecting devices. 
  • Correct storage and handling of micro duct/sub duct assemblies and other interconnecting microduct/subduct hardware 
  • Identify different types and methods of trenching 
  • Identify reinstalment and back-filling techniques of trenches to manufacturer’s recommendations 
  • Connect micro ducts into tube bundles assemblies and tube distribution closures 
  • pre-blowing pressure and continuity testing 
  • Carry out blown fibre processes 

Assessment

Candidates are individually assessed by a number of timed assessments.

Please note:

All candidates associated assessments are marked internally by a nominated and City and Guilds approved assessor.

These assessments will be subject to a quality audit by the awarding body
